Arcane Ascension — Privacy Policy
This privacy policy describes how Arcane Ascension (“the app”, “we”) handles information when you play the game on Android, iOS, or the web, and how this website (arcane-ascension.com) handles information when you visit it. Arcane Ascension is developed and published by ismurray LLC (“the developer”), a North Carolina limited liability company at 4030 Wake Forest Rd Ste 349, Raleigh, NC 27609, US, which is the data controller for the purposes of this policy.
The short version: the game never asks for your name, email, or contact details. Your game progress stays on your device, and the optional online multiplayer uses an anonymous account you can delete in-app at any time. The app uses Google services for anonymous usage analytics, crash reporting, and — on Android and iOS only — optional rewarded ads.
Information we collect
We do not collect any information that directly identifies you. The app includes the following third-party services, which collect limited data automatically:
Google Analytics for Firebase
Collects anonymous usage data so we can understand how the game is played and improve it — for example: matches started and finished, game settings used, spells cast, feature usage, session length, approximate region (derived from IP address, which is not retained), device model, and operating system version. This data is associated with a randomly generated app-instance identifier, not with you.
Where consent is required (the European Economic Area, the UK, and Switzerland) and has not been given, analytics runs in Google’s consent-aware mode: no device identifiers are collected and only anonymous, identifier-free signals are sent, which Google uses solely for aggregate modeling. Crash reporting stays off entirely until you opt in.
Firebase Crashlytics
Collects crash reports and diagnostics (stack traces, device state at the time of a crash, device model, OS version) so we can find and fix bugs.
Google AdMob (Android and iOS only)
The mobile app can show an optional, rewarded video ad — only when you choose to watch one. AdMob may collect device advertising identifiers and ad-interaction data to serve and measure ads.
- In the European Economic Area, the UK, and Switzerland: a consent form is shown before any ads are requested. If you do not consent to personalized ads, ads are either not shown or shown on a non-personalized basis.
- On iOS: ads are always non-personalized. The app does not track you and never requests Apple’s App Tracking Transparency permission, so no advertising identifier (IDFA) is used.
- The web version of the game shows no ads.
Cookies and similar technologies (web version)
The web version of the game does not use cookies for advertising. It may
use a small number of first-party Google Analytics cookies (such as
_ga) solely for the anonymous usage measurement described
above, plus your browser’s local storage for game progress and
settings, which is strictly necessary for the game to function and never
leaves your device.
- In the European Economic Area, the UK, and Switzerland: no analytics cookies are set unless you accept the consent prompt shown the first time you open the game. If you decline (or before you answer), the game sends only anonymous, cookieless measurement signals via Google Consent Mode.
- Elsewhere: analytics cookies are used by default; you can turn them off at any time with the “Share anonymous usage data” toggle in the game’s settings.
This website (arcane-ascension.com)
The pages on this site use the same Google Analytics measurement as the game, so that visits here and play in the game can be understood as one picture. It records which pages are viewed, roughly where in the world the visit came from (derived from IP address, which is not retained), the site that referred you, your browser and device type, and which buttons are clicked — in particular the App Store, Google Play, and “play in your browser” links, so we can tell how many visitors go on to install or play. None of this identifies you, and this site has no accounts, forms, or logins of any kind.
When you follow a store link from this site, a campaign label naming the page and button you clicked travels with it, so Apple and Google can report how many installs came from here. The label describes the button, not you.
- In the European Economic Area, the UK, and Switzerland: this site sets no analytics cookies at all. Those visits send only anonymous, identifier-free signals via Google Consent Mode, which Google uses solely for aggregate modeling. That is also why you are not asked to dismiss a cookie banner here.
- Elsewhere: a small number of first-party Google
Analytics cookies (such as
_ga) are used for the anonymous measurement described above. Browser-level “do not track” or tracking-protection settings, and any content blocker, will stop this measurement entirely.
Online multiplayer (optional)
If you use the online multiplayer beta, the game creates an anonymous account via Firebase Authentication: a randomly generated identifier and a username (auto-generated, or one you choose). No email, password, or other personal detail is collected. Match documents — the settings and moves of each online game — are stored on Firebase (Cloud Firestore) so both players can play the same game.
You can delete your online account at any time from the online lobby (“Delete online account”), which removes the account, your profile, and your username, and withdraws you from ongoing games. Records of finished matches remain in other players’ match histories; once your account is deleted they can no longer be linked to anyone. Full instructions: delete-account page.
Information stored on your device
Game progress (unlocks, statistics, achievements, in-progress matches, settings) is stored locally on your device and, on Android, may be backed up via Google Block Store so progress can transfer to a new device. We cannot access this data; it never reaches our servers.
How we use information
- To understand feature usage and improve the game
- To find and fix crashes and bugs
- To serve and measure the optional rewarded ads (mobile only)
- To measure aggregate game balance (e.g., which spells are over- or under-used)
We do not sell your data. We do not use the data for any purpose other than those listed above.
Data sharing
Data collected by the services above is processed by Google LLC under their own privacy policies:
We do not share data with anyone else.
Data retention
Analytics and crash data are retained by Google Firebase per their standard retention controls (user-level analytics data is retained for a limited period, then aggregated). Local game data remains on your device until you delete the app or reset progress in the app’s settings.
Your rights and choices
- Analytics consent: in regions with consent laws (EEA/UK/CH), the game asks once before collecting any analytics. Everyone can turn “Share anonymous usage data” on or off in the game’s settings at any time; turning it off disables analytics and crash reporting for your device.
- Ads consent (EEA/UK/CH): you can change your ads consent choice at any time from the game’s settings.
- iOS: the app never requests tracking permission and serves only non-personalized ads, so there is nothing to configure.
- Android ads personalization: Android Settings → Privacy → Ads (reset or delete your advertising ID).
- Online account deletion: delete your online account in-app from the online lobby, or see the delete-account page for details and a contact route if you no longer have the app.
- Deletion: deleting the app removes all locally stored game data. Because analytics data is not tied to your identity, we cannot look up or delete individual records on request — but you can ask us to delete data associated with your app instance if you provide the app-instance ID.
- Depending on your jurisdiction (e.g., GDPR in the EU, CCPA/CPRA in California), you may have additional rights such as access, correction, deletion, and objection to processing. Contact us to exercise them.
Children
Arcane Ascension is not directed at children under 13 (or the equivalent minimum age in your jurisdiction), and we do not knowingly collect personal information from children. Ads served through AdMob use Google’s standard protections; if you believe a child has provided personal information through the app, contact us and we will address it.
Security
The app makes no network requests other than those made by the Google services described above, which use encrypted (HTTPS) connections. Locally stored progress uses your device’s standard app storage protections (and the platform keychain/keystore where applicable).
Changes to this policy
If we make material changes, we will update this page and the effective date above. Continued use of the app after changes take effect constitutes acceptance of the revised policy.
